Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-20
John Higgins ("we") builds Sauce, an iOS app for
discovering, creating, and sharing sauce recipes. This policy explains what we
collect, why, and your choices. We do not sell your data or
track you across other apps or websites for advertising purposes without your
permission. Sauce does not currently show ads; if that changes, we'll update
this policy and, where Apple's rules require it, ask your permission first
(App Tracking Transparency).
Information we collect
- Account (Sign in with Apple). When you sign in, we
receive a stable user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name
and email. Apple's "Hide My Email" is supported — if you use it, we only
ever see a relay address.
- Profile. A display name, username, and optional bio you
set.
- Content you create. Recipes, photos, stories, and posts
you save or publish; your upvotes, saves, reports, and blocks.
- AI generation inputs. When you generate a recipe, the
ingredients and flavor settings you select are sent to our server, which
calls Google's Gemini API to produce a recipe. These requests do
not include your name, email, or account identifier.
- Subscriptions. Purchases are processed by Apple. We
receive and store the resulting entitlement state (active/expired and
renewal dates) to grant access; we never receive your payment card
details.
We do not collect precise or coarse location, contacts,
browsing or search history, or health data. We do not currently use
third-party analytics, ad networks, or advertising identifiers; if we
introduce advertising, this section will be updated to describe what's
collected and shared before it ships.
How we use information
- To provide the app: your account, saved and published recipes,
community feeds, moderation, and subscription access.
- To keep the community safe: automated moderation (blocked words,
profanity, links), rate limiting, and handling reports and blocks.
- To operate AI generation and enforce fair usage (free and subscription
limits).
We process data to provide the service you request; we do not use it for
tracking or advertising.
How information is shared
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and subscription
processing.
- Supabase (our hosting/backend provider) — stores your
account and content on our behalf.
- Google (Gemini API) — receives anonymous
recipe-generation inputs to return a recipe. No account identifiers are
sent.
- Other users — content you publish
(profile, posts, photos, recipes) is public within the app. Drafts and
saves remain private to you.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users'
safety.
Advertising
Sauce does not currently show ads. If we introduce advertising in the
future, we will update this policy first and request your permission via App
Tracking Transparency before any tracking-based ads.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and content until you delete them or delete your
account. You can remove saved recipes and delete posts in the app. You can
permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from
Settings → Delete account; this removes your profile,
recipes, posts, saves, votes, and usage.
Children
Sauce is rated 4+ and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not
knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security
Connections use TLS. Access to stored data is restricted by row-level
security so users can only reach their own private content and public
community content. Privileged credentials are held only on our servers,
never in the app.
Your choices
- Use "Hide My Email" with Sign in with Apple.
- Keep recipes private (don't publish) — saves and drafts stay private to
you.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.
Changes
We'll update this page and the "last updated" date when this policy
changes.
